"It's the talk of the town,"  is not a line from a 40's tune.  It describes the new singing sensation, Hot Cocoa, steaming its way throughout Central Florida and beyond, performing swing and jazz numbers from the 40's, 50's and 60's.

Their repertoire includes "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,"  "Sing, Sing, Sing,"   "One O'clock Jump"  and their show stopping "Old Time Rock'n Roll," as well as such Broadway show tunes as "If My Friends Could See me Now," and "Strike Up The Band."

The four women who keep Hot Cocoa well-stirred range in age from... well... who's counting anyway?  The point is, these all-singing, all-dancing, all-joking females have been kicking up their heels and singing as a group for over ten years now.

They started with only three singers practicing once a week in each other's homes and using a portable cassette player for background music.  For plunking out individual parts, a keyboard served the purpose if no piano was available.

After one of the members moved back North, the two remaining decided to continue and so the recruiting began until the blend of four-part harmony was balanced.
In their quest for a name and a slogan, "Hot Cocoa" and "Savor the Sound of Swing" were chosen.  All agreed on the appropriateness of the choices.

Performances began in 1995 for a number of charitable organizations.  As the group became more popular, costumes, technical equipment and sound technicians followed in short order.  The group began performing for varied audiences, such as Universal Studios, Cypress Gardens, Henegar Center for the Arts, Space Coast Philharmonics, and the Delray Beach circuit.

According to Alice Fowler of the Space Coast Network of Executive Women, "It's easy to catch up on their enthusiasm and infectiousness... You can tell that they're enjoying what they're doing.  It radiates to the audience... They're a great group."  Fowler continued, "They're high quality women.  I'm glad they're doing what they're doing in their professional lives and still get out and have fun."

The four members come from all walks of life-- homemaker, college English professor, a retired accounting professional, and registered nurse, to name a few.  The troupe includes Hazel, Judi, Jerry, and Joyce.

And the list of accomplishments these ladies collectively boast reads like a who's who in community theater.  The women have performed on stage and behind the stage in musical-theater productions, on radio and television, as well as with the U.S.O. during World War II.

Practice for their Christmas performances is already underway.  For further information on having Hot Cocoa perform for private parties and organizations, call (321) 631-6746.
